Egg Carton Ant

Egg Carton Ant - Critter Crafts: Bug Crafts for Kids

All you need is an empty egg carton and some craft supplies like paint and pipe cleaners
to make an ant that can live in your house without invading your kitchen!

Materials

  • cardboard egg carton – you need 3 cups attached
  • scissors
  • yellow, brown, red or black tempra paint (or any color you would like) - paintbrush
  • 4 pipe cleaners (three for legs and one for antennae)
  • sharp pencil
  • wiggle eyes, 2 cheerios or 2 fruit loops
  • black marker
  • glue

Directions

  1. Cut a strip of 3 cups from the cardboard egg carton*
  2. Paint the cups and let dry
  3. Using a sharp pencil, poke 2 holes in the top of the first cup*
  4. From inside the cup, poke both ends of the pipe cleaner through the pencil holes to make antennae (one end through each hole)
  5. Using a sharp pencil, poke one hole on the sides of each cup (6 holes)*
  6. Push a pipe cleaner through the holes in the first cup (make the same amount of pipe cleaner stick out the sides – these are the legs, bend to form feet)
  7. Repeat with the second and third cup
  8. Glue the wiggle eyes onto the head (substitute cheerios or fruit loops)
  9. Optional: draw mouth on with black marker

*Adults can do this before craft time
